Bio

Recently, a potential business partner asked why I feel driven to write - what was inside me that I yearned to express. It's not that, I told him. I'm not chasing a byline or brimming with the great American novel. What I enjoy is the challenge of learning about a topic - be it the steel industry or culturing pearls - informing others, and explaining to them why they should care.

I didn't realize this, though, back when I working as a newspaper reporter outside Cleveland, Ohio. I just knew I liked to write. I grew up in northern Ohio, was graduated from Ohio University's E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, then took a job writing about politics and manufacturing for my hometown newspaper. But after you write enough stories about steel bankruptcies and auto plant closings, you realize that building your future in the rust belt might not be the best plan.

Because a cross-country move to Tampa wasn't enough of a change, I took a job writing cue cards for the hosts selling fine jewelry on the Home Shopping Network. Since HSN also sold its products online, I gained valuable experience writing web copy during my time there. In 2007 I left HSN and pursued freelance magazine writing, which allowed the flexibility that I needed following the birth of my first child. More recently, I volunteered for a year and a half as a script writer for Moving Forward with Dr. Stephen Rummage, a radio program that airs daily throughout central and south Florida, as well as broadcasts nationwide on Sirius XM Radio. But now I'm getting back to my first love – the written word, and the challenge of using it to making the complex relatable.

Great ideas are rarely simple - if they were, someone else would have already thought of them. Got one? Then let me help you tell your customers why they should, no why they NEED to know about it.
